In the 12th generation back he would of had 38 ancestors.16 were males, 22 were females. what i did was i drew a chart starting with 1 male bee, then i drew it out like a real family tree.1 male has 1 mother, who has 1 mother and father, the father has 1 mother, the mother has 1mother and father.and i continued that patter 6 times(to the 6th generation). then i counted how many bee's there was and multiplyed by 2(becuase 6x2=12 which was the generation i needed. then i counted the males and females and did the same, multiplyed by 2.

Hey everyone, Ok so, basically I made kind of like a family tree/chart. So first one male goes to one female, so on, so on. I did that until the 6th generation for the male, where I found there was 13 ancestors in that generation. There were 5 males, so I multiplied 5 by 13= 65. So in the 12th generation there would be 65 males. But then I had to find the number of Females. So, I extended the chart another generation, and found 21 ancestors in that generation. That would be the 6th generation for the female, the male's mother. In the 6th generation for female (7th for the male) there was 8 females. So, I multiplied 21 by 8 to find 168. Then I added 168 to 65, to get 233. So he would have 233 ancestors in the twelfth generation. Along the side I was looking for any sort of pattern and I found that the number of ancestors in each generation could be found by adding the two before that. For instance: three was in the third generation, then 5 in the fourth. 5+3: 8, and the number of ancestors in the 5th generation was 8. So I used that to check my answer. 6th=13 7th=21 8th=34 9th=55 10th=89 11th=144 12th=233 So my answer was correct.
I know my answer was different then Adele's but that's what I got so....also I know it was long again. But I am NOT the best explainer! Yah so please don't copy! *KATTY*
I made a family tree. What I did is I counted the number of bees back six generations. I got 32 bees overall, 20 Female and 12 male. Then I multiplied them by 2 because 12 is twice 6 and got 4o Females and 24 males. that equals 64 total bees.
Wait..... I found that for each generation the number is double of that number in the Fibonacci sequence. The first 12 numbers in the Fibonacci sequence; 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144 are all half of the first 12 total number of bee ancestors. (except for the first 1 which is the same) so 1+2+4+6+10+16+42+68+110+178+288=751. So the total number of bees 12 generations back is 751. I am not sure how to figure out the number of Males and Females yet.
I found another formula, the number of Females in a generation is the number of males 1 generation back. So the pattern goes, G1:1F G2:,1F, 1M, G3:2f, 1M G4: 4F, 2M G5: 6F, 4M G6: 10F, 6M
like leo, when i was making my family tree chart i realized that it was the fibonaci sequence. it starts off at 1 then 2, 3, 5, 8,then 13 for the 6th generation. Then moves on to 21, 34 etc. It would mean that the male bee up to twelve generations ago would have 751 ansestors. Even though i got the same answer as leo as we both figured out that it's the fibonachi sequence, i don't consider this copying him, as this is MY findings and he wrote down 3 therios....... Iris

The male bee has 376 ancestors. This is how I found my answer. 1 male, hatched by 1 female, hatched by 1 male and 1 female, the male was hatched by 1 female, but the female from before was hatched by 1 male and 1 female, so that's 4 generations, the male was hatched by 1 female, and the other 2 females were hatched by 2 males and 2 females, so those 2 males were hatched by 2 females, and the 3 females were hatched by 3 males and 3 females, the 3 males were hatched by 3 females, but the 5 females were hatched by 5 males and 5 females, and those 8 females were hatched by 8 more females and 8 males, but the 5 males were hatched by 5 more females, that's 8 generations, so the 13 females were hatched by 13 males and 13 females, but the 8 males were hatched by 8 females, and the 21 females were hatched by 21 males and 21 females, but the 13 males were hatched by 13 females, and those 34 females were hatched by 34 males and 34 females, and the 21 males were hatched by 21 females, and now for the final generation, the 55 females were hatched by 55 males and 55 other females, and the 34 males were hatched by 34 females, so the twelfth generation had 89 females and 55 males. There are 144 males, and 232 females. So there are 376 bees in total. I hope this is right.

HI, I got a different answer than everyone. This is what I got 23. 11 males and 12 females. I got my answer by going back through the generations. Also, there can only be one female bee, the queen (that's how the the hive works). That's what I came up with, hope it helps =)

If you look at the number of males closely you'll notice the pattern is the fibbonacci sequence
I got my awnser by starting with creating a family tree and working my way backwards. Eventually I saw that it was the Fibbonacci sequence and used it until I got to the twelth number in the sequence. that number was 89. I have still not figured out how many males there are
I think that a male bee has 608 ancestors in th 12th generation. I found this out by doing the first few generations on a rough sheet and then plugged that information into an Excel Spread sheet. Then I programmed it to calculate the next 10 generations with the information that I already had. After seeing the results I figured out that the ancestory works in a Fibbonaci sequence. (1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89,144,233.) All of that equals 608.
For the amount of male bees that a male bee has in the twelve generations I found it out using the same process as I used for the total numbers of ancestors he has. These are the numbers: 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89 and that equals to 232.
Oh, I forgot to mention. I'm not really sure if the question means what is the total or how many in the 12th generation alone. Ok so the male be has 233 ancestors in the 12th generation alone. (That's not the total.) And he has 89 male bee ancestors in the 12th generation alone. (Again that's not the total).
